Va va voom! Bank Holiday Deals for your Wheels

20 Apr

With the bank holiday weekends nearly upon us – oh happy days! – Skint’s been plotting how to go the extra miles without splashing extra cash this Easter.

At the checkout in Morrisons the other dayI was chuffed to be handed a voucher for 6p off each litre of petrol. Available when spending more than £40 in the supermarket, the Morrisons bods have niftily named their deal ‘Fuel Britannia’. It runs till May 8th, leaving plenty of time to fill up your gas guzzler and plan where you want to head. The cynic in Skint notes that Morrisons have increased their fuel prices over the last week or so though – but not by as much as they’re now discounting, so it’s a very cautious thumbs up to them. The deal trumps other similar ones announced by Sainsbury’s and the Co-op in recent days – all hoping to win your bank holiday lolly.

If you don’t own your own car, or just don’t fancy using it, there’s a great car club deal on right now – but it finishes today so you’ll need to be snappy, Skint pals.  Car Clubs are growing in popularityas a means of getting access to a car when needed, without going to the hassle and expense of owning one.  Located in most of the main UK urban centres now, they’re perfect for Skint in the City types and for one-day only City Car Club has a great deal, offering a years membership and two hours driving credit for a total price of £18.50. Petrol, insurance and tax are included in the two-hour driving credit too. Now, considering that a year’s membership alone usually costs £50 this is an offer well-worth thinking about.

City Car Club is currently available in the following cities:

  • Bath
  • Birmingham
  • Brighton
  • Bristol
  • Cardiff
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Huddersfield
  • Leeds
  • London
  • Manchester
  • Sheffield
  • Southampton
  • York

To claim this offer you’ll need to buy it through deals site KGB Deals.  Like I said, buy today, but you then have six months in which to use it.  You might want to find out more about City Car Club first: check them out here.

Deals aside, there’s a lot you can do by yourself to make sure you’re getting extra miles from your petrol tank these Bank Holidays weekends:

Pump it Up : One of the best things you can do to save petrol is to inflate your tyres close to the maximum pressure stated in your car’s handbook, (don’t exceed it though). Inflating the tyres allows your car to use less energy to propel itself forwards.

Ditch the Junk in the Trunk: What’s languishing in your boot? A binbag for the charity shop that you never got round to dropping off? An armful of library books well past thier due-date? Time for a clear out, Skint pals! By lightening the load you’ll save yourself the cost of schlepping around extra goods.

Take it Easy: Fancy yourself as a queen of speed? Watch out! The faster you drive the faster the fuel goes, so drop back a little and always drive in the highest gear appropriate for your speed.

Now, Skint’s off on hols tomorrow, so there will be no posts for a week or so. My eyes will be peeled as always for the best deals though – expect a round-up on my return. Happy Easter to you all!

What you thinking? Go on and tell me!
